Tom brings depth of experience across international and Australian engineering, construction and maintenance enterprises in multiple sectors including infrastructure, energy, resources, industrial and social services sectors with full P&L accountability in some leading global public listed service companies.

As Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for Broadspectrum’s $3billion, 15,000 people Australia and New Zealand business, Tom led the business to establish a growth trajectory driven by an enterprise-wide strategy founded by an inclusive, accountable, and purposeful culture.

Tom’s track record of inclusive, accountable leadership has seen sustainable financial results, cultural and strategic growth through acquisition and organic means in major diversified Australian, North American, and Asian businesses. Engineers Australia recognised Tom as one of the top 100 engineers in Australia from 2010 to 2013.

Tom is currently the President of AREEA (Australian Resources & Energy Employer Association) and Non-Executive Director of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria. He also mentors executive MBA students at Melbourne Business School and Queensland University of Technology.

Approach

As a professional coach and mentor, Tom is highly focused on executives’ wellbeing to understand how their professional and personal motivations are in balance. Seeing executives develop into inclusive and courageous growth leaders is a rich reward for this wellbeing approach.

Tom draws out of his coachees a new understanding and belief of what is possible for them as a leader. He draws on his considerable experience as a CEO of major businesses, a senior Macquarie executive and active Board Director leading global businesses through challenge and growth to shape a growth model that is relevant to their own success.

Qualifications

After completing an apprenticeship in fitting and turning Tom gained his Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) with Honours at Chisholm Institute of Technology (now Monash University) followed by an MBA at Monash. He has also attended various programs including Leadership at the Peak, Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), and the Commercial Awareness Program, IMD Switzerland.

Personal Insights

Tom and his wife, 3 adult children, and 4 grandchildren have been fortunate to share his Australian and global career of vast experiences and learning.

His personal interests include community sports clubs for tennis and football, car restoration, and family activities including water-skiing.
