“Building resilience takes courage, including hiring people better than you.”

 

That’s a point Gordon Cairns made at last week’s Stephenson Mansell Group’s ‘Art of Leadership’ breakfast in Sydney.

Gordon, Chairman of Origin Energy and former Chairman of David Jones, spoke of how resilience in business rests on building an effective succession plan – putting people in senior roles with the ability to step into the top job.

Nerida Caesar, CEO of credit reporting and data analytics company Veda, agreed that a company’s resilience relies on nurturing talent, but individuals need to acquire it too.

The breakfast looked at how you can develop this personal resilience, by having a sense of purpose, a firm grasp on reality and by looking after your wellbeing.
