David has worked in MD, executive and risk management roles in the engineering, mining and construction contracting industry throughout Australia, the Pacific, Asia and Southern Africa. He developed, implemented and improved the corporate governance framework and risk management system at Leighton Holdings, where his areas of speciality included tunnelling and major infrastructure projects. At Leightons he was also the CEO’s representative for two years – overseeing completion of two concurrent troubled projects (the $4.5bn Victorian Desalination Plant and the $5.6bn Brisbane Airport Link) as well as being Chair of the Supervisory Board and managing the Group Insurance Portfolio. David was Managing Director at Barclay Mowlem for 16 years and grew the company seven-fold from a small regional Australian builder to a multi-disciplined engineering contractor with revenue of $1.5bn per annum, operating throughout Australia, Pacific and Asia. His areas of speciality at Barclay Mowlem included railways, marine and resource material handling. David worked in various roles over 19 years at Murray & Roberts in Southern Africa, culminating as MD of the national civil business. Projects included oil refineries, fertiliser plants, railways, sugar estates, mills, housing, roads and mining infrastructure.
